Electric arcing due to contact interruption between the pantograph and overhead line in electrified railway networks is an important unwanted phenomenon. Arcing events are short-term power quality disturbances that produce significant electromagnetic both conducted radiated as well increased degradation on wire strip of pantograph. Early-stage detection can prevent further deterioration current collection quality, reduce excessive wear pantograph-catenary system, mitigate failure strip. This paper presents a novel arc method for DC networks. The quantifies rate-of-change instantaneous phase oscillating signal during occurrence through Hilbert transform. Application practical data measurements, demonstrates derivative useful parameter detecting localizing electric arcs coasting regenerative braking phases running locomotive. detected number may be used calculate distribution per kilometre alternative estimation index consequently assess system performance. also contribute lowering predictive maintenance costs inspections works these performed only at determined sections extracted by using time locations speed profiles
